Hold Your Ground
Track Inspiration
This track is inspired by the artist’s father and his constant reminders to stand up for what you believe in, to think for yourself, and to hold values and gut instinct close to your heart no matter the circumstances. Musically, it stands apart from the rest of the tracks as a country song, using a more stripped-down, blue grass and honest sound to reflect those lessons. It brings soprano saxophone to country music blending unique timbres with fiddle. The music was inspired by Jerry Reed and Feel good sounds from Smokey and the Bandit which the artist loved to watch with his father. It also reflects his memories of fishing in Montauk with his father which were often precarious situations that built character and strength. The track is meant to feel grounded and sincere, honoring the guidance his father gave and the principles that continue to shape who he is. The track concludes with the artist playing harmonica for the first time and includes washboard recordings from his daughter Gianna.

Behind The Scenes
Lyrics
Hotel room outside Evanston
Wrote a letter that would forever change my life
I sweat over every word
I know it sounds absurd
but I was scared, didn’t even tell my wife
I should’ve known she’d never walk away
I should’ve known she’d be the one to say
Hold your ground and give ‘em your best shot
Hold your ground, don’t get pushed around
Hold your ground, if you give ‘em all you got they won’t take you down
If you hold your ground
So, I told them where to stick their medicine
Told ‘em that they didn’t have a right
When they showed me out the door,
said I’d be coming on back for more
You better be sure you really want this fight
I still can hear my dear old daddy’s voice
Son it’s your life, not someone else’s choice
[Chorus]
Hold your ground and give ‘em your best shot
Hold your ground, don’t get pushed around
Hold your ground
If you give ‘em all you got they won’t take you down
If you hold your ground
(Instrumental)
I still can hear my dear old daddy’s voice
Son it’s your life, not someone else’s choice
[Chorus]
Hold your ground and give ‘em your best shot
Hold your ground, don’t get pushed around
Hold your ground
If you give ‘em all you got
Hold your ground
they won’t take you down
Hold your ground
(Don’t get pushed around)
Hold your ground
(Instrumental)
